I’m Sarah Miller, the founder of Joyful Crafts DIY. I believe creativity should feel joyful, affordable and accessible — whether you’re crafting with children, planning a classroom activity or simply looking for a relaxing project to make at home.
Why I Started Joyful Crafts DIY
Joyful Crafts DIY began with nearly a decade of work as an elementary school teaching assistant. One thing became clear very quickly: the projects children remembered most weren’t usually the expensive or complicated ones. Construction paper, cardboard boxes, popsicle sticks, recycled containers and a bottle of glue could turn an ordinary afternoon into something children talked about for days. That experience shaped the way I approach every project here.
I grew up in a busy home where rainy afternoons often became craft days. My mother saved buttons, cardboard boxes, fabric scraps and paper towel rolls because, as she liked to say, “you never know what they might become.” Those afternoons taught me that creativity isn’t about buying more — it’s about seeing possibilities in the things already around us. Today I share that same idea with families, teachers, grandparents and beginners who want projects that feel achievable from the very first step.

Three ideas shape everything published here. Easy to Start — no complicated preparation and no expensive shopping trips; if a project needs a special tool, it does not belong on this site. Fun to Make — the process should be enjoyable for children and adults alike, with instructions written in plain steps so a child can genuinely help. Proud to Display — every finished project should feel worth displaying on a shelf, sharing with a class or giving as a handmade gift. A result that is a little uneven but was made together has done its job.

Sarah Miller is the founder of Joyful Crafts DIY and a family craft creator with more than 15 years of experience helping children and adults enjoy simple, affordable creative projects. After working as an elementary school teaching assistant, Sarah saw firsthand that the most memorable activities often begin with ordinary supplies.
At Joyful Crafts DIY, Sarah shares beginner-friendly crafts, family activities, affordable DIY projects and seasonal ideas for parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone who wants to make something fun without complicated materials. Nothing here needs special tools or a craft room. A kitchen table is plenty.
Rebecca Collins
Rebecca Collins is the Kids Craft Contributor at Joyful Crafts DIY, where she focuses on simple projects for preschoolers, elementary-age children, classrooms and rainy-day creativity. She loves turning paper, crayons, cardboard, paint and everyday craft supplies into activities that are easy for adults to prepare and exciting for children to make.
